Why pay?

So, the foodgawker app only displays a handful of recipes. Interested in seeing more? Pay a small fee, thank you.

But why? I can open my browser, go to the website (which is very similar to the app), and see the lot of the recipes for free. Im confused as to why foodgawker went this route??
